Madagascar Business and Market Expansion

The purpose of the Business and Market Expansion project was to increase market-based, private sector-led growth. The project aimed to increase trade and revenues from selected Malagasy products in domestic, regional and international markets. As a subcontractor to Chemonics, IBI collected and analyzed information on mining governance projects being implemented by the government and other mining activities funded by donor agencies; to identified niches for Malagasy gemstones and jewelry in U.S. and European markets; worked with the Ministry of Commerce and other public agencies to identify studies needed in anticipation of Madagascar joining SADC; assessed the needs of the Kolo Harena cooperative, specifically in the areas of marketing and other skills needed to meet market demands.
